Meet the face behind the posts

Hi, I'm Sarah-Katherine! I'm so thankful you've found your way here! I believe that my purpose on this earth is to glorify God and to fight for His Kingdom everywhere I'm sent. In short: I'm a missionary, and I've dedicated myself to serving God wherever His Holy Spirit leads me. At times that has led me to new countries and unexpected adventures, and at times it's brought me right back to where I grew up in Virginia. I'm always growing and learning how to follow my King, and with this blog I hope to share all the lessons and work that comes along the way. My prayer is that what I learn and share will invite all who read it to see how God is active in our world and how He continually fights to bring every person into His family.

A bit of my story:

I grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia with my parents, two brothers, my sister, and our dogs. Life in Williamsburg has always been happy and slow, and I've always been thankful for such a sweet place to call home - but I will admit there are plenty of times I've complained about being bored. I grew up knowing and loving God, from a pretty young age God started calling to me and preparing me for life as a missionary.

Throughout middle and high school I did summer mission trips mainly within the United States, but the summer after my junior year I went on my first overseas trip to Nicaragua. This trip marked a shift in my life. While I was there God began opening my heart to missions and I came home telling everyone that I wanted to become a missionary. I had no idea what that meant, but the Holy Spirit planted something deep in me that I couldn't shake off.

In 2017  I started my freshmen year at James Madison University (go dukes). I truthfully had no intention of going to college, but my parents and best friend convinced me - thank God! My time at JMU was so fun, and God used it to grow so much within me and in my understanding of the world. I studied Social Justice and Humanitarian Affairs, in my major I got to dig deep in how to care for the poor, marginalized, and oppressed - and I got to wrestle with my faith through it all. At JMU I was part of a campus ministry called InterVarsity that gave me an incredible environment to grow in my relationship with Jesus, step into leadership, and go on a few more short-term mission trips.

May of 2021 I graduated from JMU, and two months later I left on an 11-month mission trip called the World Race. During this year I traveled with a group of 18 women to 10 different countries where we partnered with local ministries in their work of the Kingdom. This year was so incredible and so challenging. I learned so much about God, had so much in my inner self shaped and pruned, got to meet and serve incredible people, and continually had my eyes opened to what life as a missionary can be.

June of 2022 I came home from the World Race and started walking with God in this next chapter of life. God brought me home and asked me to spend time learning to live out my calling as a missionary back in my home town. I've both struggled and really loved my time home - God has been so kind to me as I've awkwardly tried to follow all He asks me to do. I've loved being with my family and getting to meet my new niece, I've picked up random jobs and met new people, and I've found the deepest love for youth ministry as I've begun leading with YoungLife. YoungLife is a gift I never expected or would have ever thought to plan for; every time I hang out with my kids I get a little teary-eyed as I thank God for bringing me to them. His plans really are better than anything I could dream up.
